The Y-House Foundation Inc. supports young people living in, or at risk of living in, aged care. Across Australia there are 3,899 young people living in residential aged care. In Australia the minimum age for admission to aged care is 65, so when we talk about ‘young people’ living in aged care we’re talking about all those under the age of 65 that are living in this environment. There are many reasons that young people end up living in aged care, the main being that they have complex disabilities or medical conditions that result in high care needs.
